MOASH is thrilled to announce a brand new event for LGBTQIA+ youth in Michigan: The Building Our Own Movement (BOOM) Pride Summit.
Like its sibling summit - the BAMM Pride Summit - the BOOM Pride Summit is intended to be a place for middle and high school-aged youth to develop skills, make community, and most importantly be themselves.
The BOOM Pride Summit has been a collaborative effort between MOASH, local educators, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, the Wayne State University Center for Gender and Sexuality, and other community organizations as we work to make the BOOM Pride Summit a unique event that is relevant and engaging to its attendees. This summit is also supported by funding from The Skillman Foundation.
The summit is free for attendees and will include free lunch and snacks for participants. Participants will have the chance to choose breakout sessions that feel relevant to their needs, connect with local resources, and meet other local youth like them. Youth who are not LGBTQ but are allies (such as members of a GSA) and supportive adults bringing youth are also welcome to attend. We plan to cap attendance for the summit at 150 people.

Our workshop session proposal application is now LIVE! At our summit, a breakout session is a 45 minute, hands on workshop that is supposed to give attendees the chance to learn about focused topics in small groups. Breakout sessions should engage youth and have them working with the ideas you're presenting hands-on. Workshops should have attendees talking, moving, writing, or anything active, not just listening! We will consider any workshops that support the growth and development of participants. Sessions do not need to be about LGBTQ ideas in particular, but should consider the needs of LGBTQ youth in MI. We also highly encourage sessions that are facilitated by youth or have youth co-facilitators.
